Many of you have asked about our boat. One thing we always get when we bring people aboard is comments about how spacious it is, especially for a 35′ boat, which is generally considered to be on the average-to-small side for a cruising boat. We decided to put together a show-and-tell style boat page for our humble abode.Vacilando is a 1984 Cal 35, designed by the well-renowned boat designer Bill Lapworth. She’s 35′ LOA, draws 5′ and has an 11′-3″ beam. She has more room down below than earlier Cal’s and was designed mainly for the cruising couple who desired performance as well. She’s light, just 13,500 lbs. but her deep rudder digs in and she handles really well. There is over 6′ of headroom down below, tons of storage and a separate shower. She’s got an inboard Universal 35 hp Diesel and 3 blade prop that moves her along at over 6 knots when the wind dies. We carry 33 gallons of fuel, 9o gallons of water and have a 25 gallon black water holding tank.
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, we’ve put together a video and photo tour below to give you a better idea of our very simple, very minimal living space… which, ironically is more than we need since we still have tons of unused space. Hope you enjoy!
